Interventional Services
Our Physicians have extensive experience in the provision of advanced bronchoscopy services for investigation and management of conditions in the lungs and chest. Our physicians offer the full suite of bronchoscopy services rarely available within one specialty group. This includes access to standard bronchoscopy, high level interventional bronchoscopy (including airway stent insertion & cryobiopsy), and Endobronchial Ultrasound Guided Lymph Node Biopsy (EBUS) for the investigation and management of thoracic lymphadenopathy and lung cancer. As such, our physicians offer the full suite of bronchoscopy services rarely available within one specialty group. We can also facilitate imaging guided interventions such as CT-guided biopsy and drainage of fluid from the lung space (effusion).
Our Physicians are active participants in the Lung Cancer Multi-Disciplinary Team, and have extensive relationships with interventional radiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Medical and Radiation Oncologists through both the public and private system.
Lung Function Laboratory
Queensland Respiratory Services (QRS) is an associated state-of-the-art Lung Function Laboratory offering a wide range of diagnostic tests, including Complex Lung Function & Mannitol Challenge Testing, as well as more specialised tests such as respiratory muscle strength measures, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and overnight oximetry. These tests are often critical in the diagnosis and management of airways and other lung diseases. The laboratories are staffed by highly trained and experienced scientists who will make you feel comfortable at all times during your breathing tests.
Why do we measure lung function?
Evaluation of lung function is important in many situations including the assessment of the patient with breathlessness, monitoring of patients with known lung disease and screening for patients who have risk factors for lung disease, such as cigarette smoking. It can also be a crucial factor in determining treatment options for patients e.g. whether surgery to remove a lung cancer is possible.
Types of lung function tests available:
- Spirometry – An assessment of airway function usually measured before and after an inhaled bronchodilator.
- Complex Lung Function Tests – A complete and full assessment of lung function, which may include an assessment of airway function, lung volumes and diffusion capacity.
- Mannitol Bronchoprovocation Testing – An assessment of airway hyperreactivity, which may be useful in the diagnosis of asthma.
Sleep Studies
In partnership with number of sleep study labs, we provide sleep studies at sleep investigation units at number of locations across Queensland and at home.
They use only the gold standard in PSG, adhering to the guidelines prescribed by Medicare Australia, the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in the performance of all of our sleep studies.
